ABOUT THIS SITE

Practice Matters, published in February 2017, is a description of the advance and development of modern general practice. No other such book exists.

In the 1950s, general practice was in the baggage train of the British National Health Service. Yet by the beginning of the twenty-first century, it had become the spearhead - the central element of the service.

How did that happen? And why?

Practice Matters seeks to explain that remarkable transformation.

Within this website you can find:

  • more detail about the book, and where to buy it.

  • a small but expanding archive of material that could not be included in the text but which, in the future, may be of interest to those studying the development of the NHS.

  • the archive will also contain a bibliography of what to my mind are key books and documents.

  • an occasional blog of thoughts about the NHS, and perhaps other matters, if the mood so takes me.

I hope you find it of interest.

Andrew.
